About
2010 Program
01 February to 16 April 2010
Applications are open to career focused young hospitality professionals, currently residing in Australia and working full-time in the restaurant industry. All of the entries are assessed by a judging panel comprising some of Australia’s leading chefs and restaurateurs. Once entries have been received, each judging panel selects participants from each state.
Two to three young chefs and waiters are selected from each state and four to five young restaurateurs are selected from around Australia
21 May 2010
Young chef, waiter and restaurateur applicants are contacted and advised if their entry has been successful. For those who did not make it this time, participants will be provided with feedback from the relevant judging panel as well as the opportunity to be involved in a one day skills workshop in their state later in the year.
07 June 2010
The successful young chef and waiter finalists are flown to Sydney. The young waiter finalists participate in knowledge assessments, as well as blind food and wine tastings. The young chef finalists cook against the clock and each other to produce one dish for the judges to critique. From these two groups, up to seven young chefs and waiters will be selected to become the Electrolux National Finalists.
From 27 June to 04 July 2010
All of the young chefs, waiters and restaurateur national finalists participate in an all expenses paid 5 day tour of one of Australia’s leading food and wine regions. They will get to meet and learn from some of Australia’s world renowned dairy, horticulture, meat, seafood and viticulture growers and producers.
05 July 2010
At the conclusion of the trip, the Electrolux young chef and waiter national finalists participate in the final cook-off, wait off plus individual interviews in Sydney. The Electrolux Young Restaurateur national finalists submit answers to a questionnaire
09 August 2010
